Eclectic Nostalgia

I designed this room for the next big adventure in our life — parenting. Knowing we were in for just as many confusing language barriers and awkward social situations as when we lived abroad, I decided to make this nursery an homage to our mantra: It's all part of the adventure.

Treasures from our travels and our family are dotted throughout the room: art and accessories from Czech antique stores, a rug from a San Francisco thrift store, my dad's Marine Corps foot locker, my grandmother's lamp shade, all topped off with a globe from my elementary school boyfriend, Tom Alexander. The mustard ceiling, swiss cross wall and vintage dressers make the room gender-neutral and age-blind.

Also, long live Steve Zissou.
