Okay… it can be a pain, But we’re here To HELP!

To get started with virtual design services, we need measurements and photos of your space.

So grab your tape measure and smart phone, and let’s walk through it, step by step!

Step 1: Sketch the Room

Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be pretty! Check out the example sketches below for reference (click to enlarge).

  • Draw the general shape of the room as if you were looking from a bird's eye view.

  • Add all doors, windows and other architectural features.

  • Draw an arched line to show the door swing.

  • Mark the location of electric outlets with an X.

Step 2: Make Measurements

Add measurements to your sketch.

  • Start with the overall measurements. Measure the full length of each wall.

  • Add in the details. Measure the width of each wall section, door, and window.

  • Measure to the nearest inch. It doesn’t have to be in fractions!

  • Ignore the trim. Measure as if the trim isn’t there. But let us know how tall baseboards are, and how wide door trim is, separately.

  • Add elevation measurements:

    • Ceiling Height

    • Windowsill Heights

    • Window Heights, from the floor to to top of the window (again, ignore the trim)

    • Door Heights

    • Fireplace Depth and Mantle Height

  • Furniture. Include width, depth, and height for any furniture pieces you definitely want to keep.

Step 3: Photograph the Room

Capture your space to give us the lay of the land!

Example: Corner to corner shot

Example: Wall to Wall Shot

  • Take photos with natural light when your room is brightest. Turn off all lights and lamps, and do not use the flash.

  • Shoot from every corner straight across to the opposite corner.

  • Shoot from the middle of every wall straight across to the middle of the opposite wall.

  • Shoot wide shots with mostly horizontal photos to show as much of the room in each photo as possible. We need to see how your space relates to other walls, doors, hallways, etc.

  • Shoot a couple vertical photos to show ceiling fixtures and/or height of tall ceilings.

  • Take a photo of furniture you want to keep in the room.

  • Too many is better than not enough!

Step 4: Send Us Your Stuff
