Around-the-world Nursery

I designed this room for the next big adventure in our life—parenting. Knowing we were in for just as many confusing language barriers and awkward social situations as when we lived abroad, I decided to make this nursery an homage to our mantra: It's all part of the adventure.

Treasures from our travels and our family are dotted throughout the room: art and accessories from Czech antique stores, a rug from a San Francisco thrift store, my dad's Marine Corps foot locker, my grandmother's lamp shade, all topped off with a globe from my elementary school boyfriend, Tom Alexander. The mustard ceiling, swiss cross wall and vintage dressers make the room gender-neutral and age-blind.

Also, long live Steve Zissou.
