Rise and Shine Bathrooms

As warm as a Terlingua sunrise, and as rugged as desert grasslands, these bathrooms were designed to strike a cord, and to last. Home to a beloved Austin musician, his wife, and two kids with roots in West Texas, the family wanted bathrooms that could hold for years.

The full bath doubles as the kids’ bathroom and guest bathroom. While we kept the original footprint, it was a night and day transformation. When we started, the bathroom was dark and heavy, and storage was limited. So we started with a durable cement hex tile on the floor in sunrise colors. We played an aqua glass tile off of an inky navy paint, added warmth with clay-colored sconces, a tangerine wall cabinet, and a wood double vanity that’s both airy and full of storage. Our client had her eye on Slim Aarons prints that we framed in orange, and added cacti wall hooks to play up the West Texas theme without being too on-the-nose.

The primary bathroom also got a total facelift. Unique in how very super tiny it is, we managed to work a lot of magic into a small footprint! We moved the sink so the walk-in shower could be anchored with built-in storage, and went bold in the floor tile and ceiling paint. A lake-y blue wall tile between gives the feeling of a secret cenote.

All in all, these were simple remodels. But the family told us they wanted bathrooms that made life easier, from morning tooth brushing to evening bathing. The family says they love this bathroom more every day, and delighting our clients with inspiring spaces is what makes the sun rise and set for our firm!
